 Biographical Information
The cousin of Pep Harris, outfielder Danny Clyburn played parts of three seasons in the majors.
Clyburn attended Lancaster High School in Lancaster, South Carolina, and while there, he was selected All-Region in 1992 for leading the team in batting average, stolen bases and RBIs. He was selected 47th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the 1992 June draft. Following the 1994 campaign, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds organization for Jacob Brumfield, and midway through the next season, he was dealt to the Baltimore Orioles.
After hitting .300 with 20 homers for the Rochester Red Wings, Clyburn earned a September callup to the O's in 1997, going hitless with a pair of strikeouts in 3 at-bats for the club. He was back with Baltimore late in the 1998 season, making his first major league start and getting hig first big league hit against the Kansas City Royals on August 30th. Overall, he hit .280 with a home run in 11 games for the Orioles that year.
Clyburn was shot and killed in 2012, apparently after an argument with a neighbor. He was 37 years old. The neighbor later turned himself in to police and was charged with murder.
