Dan Callahan was 2-3 with two saves and a 3.31 ERA in 16 games for the 1982 GCL Padres. He was coach at Springfield Lanphier High School and Springfield High School. He was graduate assistant at Southern Illinois University in 1986-1987. Callahan was the head coach at Eastern Illinois University from 1989 to 1994.

In 1995, Callahan became head coach at Southern Illinois University; he reached 400 wins at SIU in 2009.
