After seven decades in the Texas League, the Dallas club adopted the nickname Rangers in 1958. A year later the Dallas Rangers moved up to the American Association. They went 75-87 in 1959, finishing 9th in the AA. The news wasn't all bad - Marion Fricano led the league in ERA (2.02) and had a 12-4 record, while Luis Marquez led the AA in batting average at .345. The team played at Burnett Field in Dallas, TX.

The next season the club merged with the Fort Worth Panthers in hopes of playing in the planned Continental League. When that league did not come to fruition, the combined Dallas-Fort Worth Rangers remained in the AA.

The name was revived in 1964 by the Pacific Coast League Dallas team, a horrible team whose most famous player was Ken Harrelson.
