The Daimai Orions were formed in 1958 by the merger of the Daiei Unions and Mainichi Orions. The merged team was a powerhouse, finishing second in 1959 and winning the Pacific League pennant in 1960 but fading from there. In 1964 they became the Tokyo Orions.
