[edit] Biographical Information
Curt Raydon had a notable 8-4 season as a rookie for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1958, but never again pitched in the majors. He was in the minors after that, pitching well in 15 games in 1959, and while he was expected to come back to the majors (Topps issued a 1960 Pirates baseball card for him), it never happened. He later became a policeman.
He pitched a four-hit shutout against the San Francisco Giants on July 25, 1958, for his only career shutout and one of two complete games. Raydon developed a cyst on the index finger of his pitching hand and then a sore arm after the 1958 season. His arm problems limited him to only 15 games - all in AAA - in 1959. With the Pirates in spring training in 1960, Raydon experienced arm tightness and was limited in his ability to pitch in exhibition games. He did not make the team and was sent back to the minors. He never again pitched in the major leagues.
Curt Raydon had an interesting career as a hitter in his only season in the major leagues: although he managed to collect only one base hit, he nevertheless walked six times.
With the Pirates, he was a year older than teammate Roberto Clemente and a year younger than teammate Dick Stuart.
