Crazy Schmit, nicknamed "Germany", was not born in Europe but in Chicago, IL. He pitched five years in the majors between 1890-1901, never having a winning season but posting decent ERA's a couple of times.

He is notable for being one of the starting rotation on the hapless 1899 Cleveland Spiders, and in 1901 was in the American League in its inaugural year.

He managed at Meridian in 1908.
