After his US career ended, Craig Stimac played from 1984-1989 in Italy, hitting .400/.452/.696 with 95 home runs, 371 RBI and 324 runs in 322 games. He helped Grosseto win its first Serie A1 title in 1986 and later coached in Italy. Stimac's career average is second all-time in Italy for players with 1,000 AB, behind only Giorgio Castelli. He became a stock trader after his baseball career ended and settled in San Marino. He died there in 2009.
Grosseto retired Stimac's number 23 months after his death; it was the 4th number the franchise retired.
