[edit] Biographical Information

Pitcher Craig Hansen was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 2005 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer with the GCL Red Sox and quickly advanced to the Portland Sea Dogs. Between the two clubs, he appeared in 10 games and allowed no earned runs. That September, he was called up by the Red Sox and appeared in 3 games in the majors. Hansen was later traded with Brandon Moss, Bryan Morris (and as part of a 3-player deal, Andy LaRoche) to the Pittsburgh Pirates; Boston got Jason Bay and the Los Angeles Dodgers Manny Ramirez in the deal. Hansen battled injury and only appeared in five games for the Pirates. He was diagnosed with Parsonage-Turner Syndrome, a rare problem that affects the ability of the upper back to send nerve signals to other muscles. His fastball lost velocity from the upper 90s to the 80s and he was released by Pittsburgh in 2011.
