Pitcher Cot Deal played four seasons in the majors with the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals. He also pitched for eight years with the Rochester Red Wings, winning 61 games during that time. He went on to manage the club for a time before becoming a big league coach.
Deal was a member of the Cincinnati Reds staff in 1959 and 1960 before spending 1961 as the skipper of the Indianapolis Indians of the American Association. He was a coach with the expansion Houston Colt .45s from 1962 to 1964 and with the New York Yankees in 1965. The following season, he began a two-year stint with the Kansas City Athletics. In 1970 and 1971, Deal was a member of the Cleveland Indians staff, and he spent 1973 and 1974 with the Detroit Tigers. His last big league coaching position was with the Houston Astros from 1983 to 1985.
