Cory Mazzoni is a minor league pitcher.
Mazzoni fanned 21 in 24 1/3 innings as a high school freshman and 44 in 48 innings as a sophomore, going 4-2 with a 3.06 ERA the latter year. He improved to 11-0, 1.17 as a junior and fanned 96 in 78 innings; he also hit .352 and was named Player of the Year by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. In 2008, he had 7-2, 1.13 record and gave up only 21 hits in 55 2/3 innings, striking out 89. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette named him All-Area. The Washington Nationals picked him in the 26th round of the 2008 amateur draft.
Mazzoni opted for college but struggled as a freshman, going 1-5 with a save and a 6.57 ERA, the second-highest ERA on the NC State staff. He was selected by the New York Mets in the second round of the 2011 amateur draft and made his pro debut on July 3rd of the summer for the Brooklyn Cyclones.
