[edit] Biographical Information
Conrad Cardinal did not play for St. Louis but rather was part of the Houston Colt .45's youth movement. He was up with the 1963 team for 6 games shortly after he turned 21 years of age.
He was far from the youngest on the team, though. There were 15 players of age 21 or younger who appeared on the 1963 team, including Jimmy Wynn (21 years old), Rusty Staub, (19), Joe Morgan (19) and others.
Conrad was signed by the Detroit Tigers in 1962 and went 14-7 for Jamestown in 1962. He made his major league debut on April 11, 1963. Most of 1963 was spent with San Antonio, where he went 9-9.
He was with Durham in 1964-65.
Conrad is the only major leaguer through 2009 with the last name Cardinal, although Jose Cardenal has a similar last name.
The Big Book of Jewish Baseball calls him Randy Cardinal, and says he made the majors in 1963 on the strength of a strong spring training showing. The book (copyright 2001) said he lived in Las Vegas, NV.
