[edit] Biographical Information
Connie Grob pitched only one season in the majors, but got into 37 games and 79.3 innings in that season.
He was 23 years old during his major league year, a year younger than teammate Whitey Herzog.
Connie started in the minors in the Brooklyn organization, going 24-5 for Sheboygan in 1952. Grob missed the 1953-1954 seasons due to military service.
After he went 11-9 for Mobile in 1955, he came to the majors in 1956. He continued to pitch in the minors through 1965, winning over 100 games during his minor league career. In 1962 he was a teammate of Phil Niekro at Louisville (Connie won 14 while Phil won 9). During his later years, he played for Oklahoma City where he was a teammate of Rusty Staub and Jimmy Wynn.
There is a memorial to Grob at a ballpark in Ashton, WI, a town where he ran a tavern and also played local baseball. A photo of the memorial can be seen here.
