[edit] Biographical Information
Catcher Clyde McCullough played in the majors for 15 years, mostly with the Chicago Cubs. He entered the Navy in December 1943 and was discharged in September 1945. He is the only player to have appeared in a World Series without playing a regular-season game in the same year, as he was used once by the Cubs in the 1945 World Series after his discharge from the Navy.
McCullough was later a coach for the Washington Senators (1960), Minnesota Twins (1961), New York Mets (1963), and San Diego Padres (1982). He also spent 1974-1976 as a minor league instructor in the Mets' system.
