[edit] Biographical Information

Cloyd Boyer had a five-year career in the major leagues, mostly with the St. Louis Cardinals at the time of Stan Musial. He also played one season with the Kansas City Athletics managed by Lou Boudreau. He continued pitching in AAA through 1961, accumulating 117 minor league victories. Later he was a major league coach.

Cloyd is the brother of major leaguers Ken Boyer and Clete Boyer, minor leaguers Wayne Boyer, Lynn Boyer, Len Boyer and Ron Boyer, and the uncle of Dave Boyer and Mickey Boyer.

He served in the Navy in 1945-1946.

Boyer was a coach for the Richmond Virginians in 1962. He was the New York Yankees minor league pitching coach in 1963-1964, and 1974-1976. Boyer scouted for the Yankees from 1964 to 1974, and replaced minor league managers in mid-season in 1962, 1963, and 1968. He was a major league coach for the Yankees (1977), Atlanta Braves (1978-1981) and Kansas City Royals (1982-1983). He returned to managing in the Toronto Blue Jays (1986) and Atlanta Braves (1988-1989) organizations.
