Cliff Ditto

Cliff Ditto was a longtime baseball scout. A 1952 graduate of Occidental College, he was a catcher and outfielder, making all conference in 1951. During the 1960s he was also a coach and counselor at South Gate High School in South Gate, California, coaching them to the Los Angeles City baseball championship in 1960. From 1969 to 1981 he was a scout for the San Diego Padres, 1982 to 1986 for the Montreal Expos, and 1987 to 1989 for the California Angels. While with the Padres he signed Tony Gwynn, Ozzie Smith, Tim Flannery and Randy Jones, and Randy Johnson for the Expos [1] [2]. Smith mentioned Ditto in his Hall of Fame induction speech [3]. Ditto also manged in the Padres chain for eight years, aptly managing at Walla Walla.

Ditto was the brother-in-law of Duke Snider [4].
