Cliff Ditto

Cliff Ditto did not play pro baseball but managed and scouted for many years. He was a 1952 graduate of Occidental College, where he was a catcher and outfielder. He was all conference in 1951. He was also a coach and counselor at South Gate High School in South Gate, California during the 1960s. He coached South Gate to the Los Angeles City baseball championship in 1960. He spent 1969 to 1981 as a scout for the San Diego Padres, 1982 to 1986 scouting for the Montreal Expos, and 1987 to 1989 scouting for the California Angels. Ditto signed Tony Gwynn, Ozzie Smith, Tim Flannery and Randy Jones for the Padres and Randy Johnson for the Expos [1] [2]. Ozzie mentioned Ditto in his Hall of Fame speech [3]. Ditto also manged in the Padres chain for eight years, aptly managing at Walla Walla.
Ditto was the brother-in-law of Duke Snider [4].
