Clay Bryant started managing in the minors for the St. Louis Browns with the Newark Moundsmen in 1944. Bryant moved to the Dodgers chain the next year, where he would stay for years. He guided the Zanesville Dodgers (1945-1947), Asheville Tourists (1948, 1950), Greenville Spinners (1949), Newport News Dodgers (1951), St. Paul Saints (1952-1954), Mobile Bears (1955) and Fort Worth Cats (1956). He was the last minor league manager of the Los Angeles Angels in the Pacific Coast League in 1957 and the last minor league manager for the Montreal Royals of the International League in 1960. He guided the Montreal club from 1958-1960, winning the International League Championship in 1958. In 1961, he was a big league coach for the Dodgers and would be a minor league pitching coach in 1962. In 1963, he returned to the managing, spending two years with the Albuquerque Dodgers. He managed in the Cleveland Indians chain with the 1966 Pawtucket Indians, 1968 Reno Silver Sox and 1969 Waterbury Indians, and spent 1967 and 1974 as a coach for the Tribe. He also managed the 1972 Portland Beavers. Overall, his teams went 1,666-1,593 in 22 years.
