[edit] Biographical Information
Claude Corbitt was originally signed by the New York Yankees while he was a college student at Duke University. Sent to the minors, he was supposed to be the Yankees' shortstop of the future. But he had arm troubles, and Phil Rizzuto became the Norfolk shortstop and then up to the Yankees.
Corbitt eventually came to the majors, but not until he was 29 years old. In 1941 he played in Montreal. During World War II, he was in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
In 1946 he played part of the season for Syracuse. In 1953 he was with the Minneapolis Millers.
