Chuck Ward was the shortstop on the 1917 Pittsburgh Pirates. He took over from Honus Wagner, who had been the team's shortstop from 1905 to 1916, and who played mostly first base in 1917.
Ward thereafter played five seasons with the Brooklyn Robins, but never got more than 150 at-bats in a season. In 1919, the year he got 150 at-bats, he was at third base. He appeared in 45 games while Lew Malone appeared in 47 games at third base. It was Malone's last year in the majors while Ward stayed three more years with Brooklyn.
Ward was a scout for the Philadelphia Phillies (1945-1955) and Cincinnati Reds (1956-1968).
