[edit] Biographical Information

Chuck was a Texas high school star who led his team to the state High School Championship. He went on to star at the University of Texas and was key to the Longhorns winning the SWC title in 1962 & 1963. Signed by the Cubs, Chuck led the Texas League in ERA (2.19) pitching for Dallas-Fort Worth in 1965.

Hartenstein appeared in a game during the 1965 season as a pinch runner but not as a pitcher. He did not make his pitching debut until the 1966 season. Chuck was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates after the 1968 season, where he was reunited with another citizen of his hometown, Freddie Patek. After being out of the majors from 1971 to 1976, he ended his big league career with the expansion Toronto Blue Jays in 1977.

Following his playing days, Hartenstein was a Cleveland Indians coach in 1979 and a member of the Milwaukee Brewers staff from 1987 to 1989.
