Chubu Nihon Dragons

For the 1947 season, Chubu Nihon became the Chubu Nihon Dragons with the introduction of team nicknames. An apocryphal story states that the Dragons nickname came from the birthyear of Chubu Nihon Shimbun president Toranosuke Sugiyama, who was born in the dragon year of the Chinese zodiac. The team became the Chunichi Dragons after the Chubu Nihon Shimbun changed its name to the Chunichi Shimbun.
