[edit] Biographical Information
Chub Collins, from Canada, played two seasons in the majors. He was from Dundas, a town not far from Toronto.
After his major league days, he played in the International Association and in Canadian ball. He also managed in the minors at Nashua and Hamilton.
A correspondent to the May 30, 1914 issue of Sporting Life announced the death of Chub Collins, and gave a biography of him. The article said he had been mayor of the town of Dundas (in Canada), and had also "occupied the councillor's chair in Barton township". The biography listed clubs for whom Collins had played or managed beginning in 1882 and continuing past 1898. It also described him in the following way:
"Charles 'Chub' Collins was a brainy ball player, a mediocre hitter, and one of the fastest runners in America."
The Dundas Star News also ran a biography of him in its January 2, 2009 issue after he was nominated for the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.
