Chub Sullivan played three years in the majors, hitting between .250 and .259 each time. He played exclusively first base.
Sullivan is credited with a record by having zero RBI in 166 at-bats in 1880, but David Nemec in The Official Rules of Baseball Illustrated indicates that recent research shows Sullivan had at least one RBI.
Sullivan and Chub Collins are the only players remembered with the first name "Chub".
When Sullivan died of tuberculosis in 1881, his teammates honored him with black crepe on their sleeves. It is the first known instance of a team creating a memorial tribute.
