[edit] Biographical information
Chris Salamida is a minor league baseball relief pitcher who has been in the Houston Astros organization since 2006. He was used primarily as a starting pitcher in his first two professional seasons.
He was drafted by the Astros in the 13th round of the 2006 amateur draft, and began his professional career that season with the Tri-City ValleyCats. He started his career off with a bang, going 10-1 with a 1.06 ERA in 14 games started. He slumped in 2007, appearing in 27 games for the Salem Avalanche - making 25 starts - and going 8-8 with a 5.85 ERA in 130 2/3 innings.
In 2008, he converted to relief pitching. With the Avalanche and Corpus Christi Hooks, he went a combined 4-4 with a 5.71 ERA in 47 games (only two starts). His 2009 season has been even more of a struggle - through July 24, he has a combine 7.89 ERA in 31 games, split between the Hooks and Lancaster JetHawks.
