A former football player at the University of Pittsburgh, Jelic is one of at least three NCAA Division I-A punters to play Major League Baseball. Andy Tracy and Darin Erstad are among the others. Was drafted in 1985 as the premier Royals catching prospect, only to be overshadowed by their 4th round pick, Mike Macfarlane. Chris Jelic finished his career with one major league hit- a solo home run.
