[edit] Biographical Information

Chris Hammond was signed as a 6th round pick in the January 1986 amateur draft by the Cincinnati Reds and scout Julian Mock.

Hammond was the 1990 Pitcher of the Year in the American Association for the Nashville Sounds. He was the first pitcher in 36 years to win the league's Pitching Triple Crown, following Herb Score. He was the first pitcher in the second (1969-1997) incarnation of the AA to achieve the feat. His 15 wins, 2.17 ERA, and 149 strikeouts all led the league.

He hit a grand slam home run in May 29, 1995. This was the first grand slam by a pitcher in almost nine years, the one before him being hit by Bob Forsch on August 10, 1986 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
