Chris Gomez manned second and short for Team USA in the 1990 Baseball World Cup, batting .500/.526/.806 with 11 runs and 11 RBI in 9 games. He was unable to make the tournament All-Star team, though he tied Brent Gates and Jorge Fabregas for fourth in average behind Orestes Kindelan, Shinichi Sato and Omar Linares.
