[edit] Biographical Information

Pitcher Christopher Carpenter was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 2004 amateur draft and the New York Yankees in the 2007 amateur draft but did not sign either year. He was then taken by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2008 amateur draft and signed by scout Lukas McKnight. He made his major league debut with them in 2011. He appeared in 10 games, pitching 9 2/3 innings with 8 strikeouts, 7 walks and a 2.79 ERA. He also made 32 relief appearances in the minor leagues, going 1-1, 4.38 for AA Tennessee and then posting a 6.53 ERA for the AAA Iowa Cubs after his mid-season big league stint.

On February 21, 2012, Carpenter was sent by the Cubs as compensation for their signing Boston Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein to become their new team President earlier in the off-seasons. The two teams were also to sent each other a player to be named later to complete the transaction, the Cubs sending Aaron Kurcz on March 15th.

Carpenter, who is also known as "Chris Carpenter", is not to be confused with two other pitchers with very similar names: Cris Carpenter, a reliever who pitched in the 1990s, and Chris Carpenter, a contemporary All-Star starting pitcher.
