[edit] Biographical Information
Chris Reitsma was a member of the Canadian Junior National team in the 1995 World Junior Championship, joining Aaron Myette on the staff. While born in the United States, he grew up in Calgary, AB and thus qualified to play for Team Canada. He earned three varsity letters in basketball while in high school. He was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the first round (34th overall) of the 1996 amateur draft.
Reitsma suffered from food poisoning before his major league debut and was being pumped full of intravenous fluids up to his appearance to help him get better. Despite this, he came out and yielded only three hits in six innings pitched.
Reitsma was 0-2 with a 6.24 ERA for Canada in the 2008 Olympics. He took losses in relief against both Team USA and Taiwan.
