Chris Cron had a major league career of two seasons. He also had several good minor league seasons in Triple A and hit .267 with 172 homers in a dozen minor league seasons.
Cron attended El Dorado High School (in Placentia, CA) at the same time as Kevin Blankenship. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1984.
A first baseman, when he came up with the 1991 Angels the regular first baseman was Wally Joyner and when he came up with the 1992 White Sox the regular first baseman was Frank Thomas.
Cron hit a homer in his final minor league at-bat for the Nashville Sounds, on June 8, 1995. He retired after that game and was named manager of the Bristol White Sox.
Since then, Cron has been a skipper for over a decade in the Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies organizations. He managed the Birmingham Barons in 2006 and the Great Falls White Sox in 2007.
His son, Chris Cron, Jr., was selected in the 44th round of the 2008 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox but did not sign. He was drafted again, this time in the 1st round of the 2011 amateur draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
