The Chinatrust Whales are a member of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. They joined the CPBL in 1993 when the circuit expanded from four to six teams. They have not won a title, but made the Taiwan Series in both 1999 and 2002.

The Whales are owned by the financial company, Chinatrust, which is known for its banking branches across Taiwan and the United States.
