Chia-Rui Mai has pitched in Taiwan's Chinese Professional Baseball League.
Mai debuted with the 2008 Brother Elephants, going 4-6 with 8 saves and a 4.43 ERA in 46 games. In the 2008 Taiwan Series, the rookie allowed one earned run in 10 1/3 innings and was 1-1, winning game 3 but losing game 7 to Luther Hackman. After the 2008 season, he tried out in the US but no MLB club signed him.
Mai was better in 2009, going 4-3 with a save and a 2.47 ERA in 51 outings. In the 2009 Taiwan Series, he gave up 5 runs in 8 1/3 IP over five games.
Mai's repertoire includes a slider, changeup, 2-seam fastball and cutter. His fastball has peaked at 94 mph.
