Outfielder Chet Clemens spent eight active seasons in professional baseball from 1936 to 1944. Clemens also spent the 1943 season in the United States Navy during World War II.
He spent the last few weeks of the 1939 season in a short nine-game trial with the Boston Bees and went 5 for 23 with a .217 batting average. After his return from military duty, he would appear again in the big leagues, this time with the Boston Braves in 1944, appearing in 19 games and hitting .176. His last game came on June 15 for the Braves and this was the sum-total of his time in the major leagues.
In his eight-year run in the minor leagues, Chet had two good seasons back-to-back with the Evansville Bees of the class B Three-I League. He hit .314 with 15 home runs in 1940 and .328 with 10 round-trippers in 1941.
After his finale in the major leagues, Clemens spent the rest of the the 1944 season with the Indianapolis Indians of the American Association and hit at a .294 clip in 101 games. His final minor league stats show that he appeared in 828 games and hit close to the .292 mark.
After baseball, Clemens made his home in San Clemente, CA, where he worked and lived until his death on February 10, 2002, at the age of 84.
