[edit] Biographical Information
Charlie Maxwell is one of the all-time most popular Tiger players. He excited the throngs with his consistent "Sunday" home runs. A fearsome hitter with mates aboard and the game on the line, he holds the Major League record for most home runs in extra innings in a season with 5 in 1960. A steady batsman with a good eye, Maxwell retired with a better than average .360 on-base-percentage.
He also has the most home runs of any player who attended Western Michigan University.
