[edit] Biographical Information
Charlie "Home Run" Johnson did not hit a homer in the majors but was above average as a hitter for the 1908 Philadelphia Phillies.
Most likely he was nicknamed "Home Run" Johnson after the well-known Negro League slugger Home Run Johnson, who had played in Philadelphia a few years earlier. The name also may have derived from his having led the 1908 Tri-State League with 9 homers.
