[edit] Biographical Information
Charlie Householder played primarily first base and catcher for the Baltimore Orioles and the Brooklyn Atlantics of the American Association. While his batting may not seem very impressive, it must be remembered that the 1882 Orioles as a team hit only .207 and the 1884 Atlantics as a team hit .225. In both cases, he played for a team in the first year of its existence.
The book Long Before the Dodgers: Baseball in Brooklyn, 1855-84 indicates that Householder played in 1883 for a team called the Merrits (in Camden), and when that team disbanded, Brooklyn picked up several players from the team.
He is not to be confused with another Charlie Householder who also played in 1884 and who was also from Pennsylvania.
