Charleston is located on the Atlantic Coast of South Carolina, at the mouth of the Cooper River, 100 miles north-east of Savannah, GA and 110 miles south-east of Columbia, SC. It is home to The Citadel University, Charleston Southern University, and College of Charleston. It is also the place where the Civil War started, with the Battle of Fort Sumter.
