Charleston is located on the Atlantic Coast of South Carolina, at the mouth of the Cooper River, 100 miles north-east of Savannah, GA and 110 miles south-east of Columbia, SC. It is home to The Citadel University. It is also the place where the Civil War started, with the Battle of Fort Sumter.
