Cha Seung Baek removed himself from a semifinal game in the Asian Junior Baseball Championship in 1998 due to pain. The Korea Baseball Association "permanently" banned him from national team involvement due to his action. A decade later, though, In-sik Kim included him on the preliminary roster submitted for the 2009 World Baseball Classic; by this point, Baek was not even a South Korean citizen anymore, having attained US citizenship.
