Prospect League

The Prospect League is an eleven team Summer Collegiate Baseball league affiliated with the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball. For 45 years, the league operated as The Central Illinois Collegiate League. Founded in 1963 as the charter member of the NCAA Certified Summer Baseball Leagues, The CICL maintained NCAA certification for 41 years before the NCAA ended their program. The Prospect League is one of the oldest Summer Collegiate Leagues in the country. In 2008, the CICL was operating with only four teams, but expanded to eleven teams and took on the name of the Prospect League to begin the 2009 season. The Prospect League includes several former indpendent professional baseball teams and continues the standard of excellence set forth by the CICL in providing a venue for college players who wish to develop their skills to enter the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft to play baseball in an environment of high level competition.
The CICL is partially financially funded by Major League Baseball (MLB). As a non-profit, 501c3 corporation, the CICL mostly depends on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations in the teams’ communities.
