Carlos Quintana was signed as a free agent by the Boston Red Sox and scout Willie Paffen on November 26, 1984. Quintana finished his career in 1998 with Grosseto, hitting .390/.517/.779 with 17 homers, 55 runs and 55 RBI in 43 games, but was 3 for 19 with 3 walks, a double and a homer in the semifinals as Grosseto fell. He finished tied with David Sheldon for second in Serie A1 in home runs, one behind co-leaders Massimo Fochi and Paul Gonzalez.
