[edit] Biographical Information

A true baseball wunderkind, Carl Scheib was the youngest player in the history of the American League. He debuted with the Philadelphia Athletics at age 16 years, 8 months, and 5 days. Perhaps equally amazing is that he left the Majors at the still young age of 27 - after an 11-year pitching career! Scheib was occasionally used as an extra outfielder and pinch hitter. Having batted the equivalent of a full season during his career, he hit for a very respectable .250 lifetime average.
