Canisius College has sponsored baseball since 1903. Billy Goeckel, the first major leaguer (out of Canisius, had quite a life as a ballplayer, composer, lawyer and politician. Pitcher John Axford and major league coach Danny Carnevale also went here, while former big leaguer Luke Urban coached here.
