The Calgary Vipers began play in the independent Northern League in 2005. They have been led by skipper Mike Busch and played their home games in Foothills Stadium for their entire existence. At the end of the 2007 season, they announced that they would be leaving the Northern League along with the Edmonton Cracker-Cats and joining the Golden Baseball League.
