The Criollos de Caguas were one of the founding members of the Puerto Rican League. They have won titles in 1941, 1948, 1950, 1954, 1956, 1958, 1960, 1968, 1974, 1977, 1979, 1981, 1987, 2001, 2011 and 2013. They won the Caribbean Series in 1954, 1974 and 1987.

Notable Criollos players have included Luis Olmo, Roy Campanella, Bill Byrd, Hank Aaron, Vic Power, Roberto Clemente, Juan Gonzalez, José Cruz, Sr., Ed Figueroa, Felix Mantilla, Carmelo Martinez, Félix Millán, Héctor Cruz, Jerry Morales, Jose Pagan, Juan Pizarro, Sixto Lezcano, Alexis Ríos, Ivan Rodriguez, Tommy Davis, Ferguson Jenkins, Tom Lasorda, Sandy Koufax, Earl Wilson, Gary Carter, Mike Schmidt, Cal Ripken Jr., Eddie Murray, Don Mattingly, Raúl Casanova, Roberto Alomar and Willie Montanez.

Managers have included Luis Olmo, Mickey Owen, Ben Geraghty, Vic Power, Bobby Wine, Jim Bunning, Doc Edwards, Félix Millán and Tim Foli.

Alex Cora became the team's General Manager in 2012.
