[edit] Team Bio

The Butler BlueSox are a Summer Collegiate Baseball team based in Butler, PA. The BlueSox were originally founded in 2006 as the Washington BlueSox. The Washington, PA-based team was among the founding members of the Tri-State Collegiate League. Following the 2008 season, the team joined the Prospect League and moved north to Butler, PA. Beginning in 2009, the BlueSox will make their home in the newly rebuilt Pullman Park.

As a team, the Butler BlueSox are dedicated and designed to provide minor league level competition for NCAA players that wish to continue on into professional baseball as with all other summer collegiate teams. The BlueSox operate in the model a Minor League team: playing nightly before fans in stadiums, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment, and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, the BlueSox are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players. Unique to the Summer Collegiate Baseball experience is the relationship between the Butler BlueSox and the Frontier League. The BlueSox General Manager, Leo Trich, is the former Director of Development for the Frontier League. The BlueSox consider it part of there mission to work at making sure that players develop and sharpen their skills in a highly competitive environment while the management does all it can to gain players additional exposure. The unique relationship with the Frontier League allows the league's coaching staffs and management to quickly become aware of BlueSox players who excel. This is an intentional design on the part of BlueSox management in an effort to move their players up to the next level.
