Before there was Rick Sutcliffe, there was catcher Butch Sutcliffe, who appeared briefly in the majors for the 1938 Boston Bees. First baseman Elbie Fletcher was the same age, 22.
He played for Quebec in 1940. He served in World War II in 1944-45.
Butch was born and died in Fall River, MA. His contemporary Dick Siebert also was born in Fall River, three years before Butch.
