[edit] Biographical Information
"Has outstanding arm and fine minor-league credentials . . . Has shown steady improvement." - from the 1980 Complete Handbook of Baseball, quoted here
Butch Edge was a first-round pick in 1974 who came to the majors for nine games with the 1979 Blue Jays. He also played ten years in the minors.
Edge was seen as an up-and-coming future star, but was cut by the Blue Jays during spring training in 1980. One source says he switched from pitcher to catcher by 1982 but his record doesn't seem to reflect any games behind the plate.
The source says that in 1988 he coached the Santa Ana College women's softball team, but that seems to have been Howard Edge.
