Butch Alberts appeared in 6 games for the 1978 Toronto Blue Jays at the age of 28, hitting .278. He played DH, in a year when Rico Carty was the regular DH.
Alberts had been a star at Gettysburg High School and went to the University of Cincinnati from 1969 to 1972. He was selected in the 28th round of the 1972 amateur draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates released him before the 1974 season and the California Angels signed him. Later, they traded him to the Blue Jays with Pat Kelly in return for Ron Fairly in December, 1977. His major league appearances were in September 1978.
In 1975, he led the Texas League in batting with a .342 average. In 1976, he was hitting .320 with El Paso when moved up to Salt Lake City, where he hit .306. In 1977 with Salt Lake City, he hit 27 home runs. He played with Mexicali in the Mexican Pacific League after that.
He played third base, first base, and outfield in the minors. He primarily wore number 14.
