[edit] Biographical Information
Country Bud Davis was in eastern Virginia near the Chesapeake Bay. He made it to the majors as a 19 year old pitcher with the 1915 Philadelphia Athletics. He appeared in 18 games, mostly pitching in relief, and finished 15 of them. While he gave up less than one hit per inning, he also gave up almost one walk per inning. As a hitter, he hit .308 and slugged .462 during a year that was part of the dead-ball era.
Davis later played more than two decades in the minors. As a pitcher, he compiled a 47-49 record, including a 20-13 mark in 1921. He later saw much playing time as an outfielder and won the Western Association Triple Crown in 1924, when he hit .400 with 51 home runs and 190 RBIs. During his minor league career, he had a .331 average with 254 homers, 2,700 hits, and 1,510 RBI in 2,224 games.
