[edit] Biographical Information
Bud Connolly was a veteran of WW2 (BN). He played 43 games in the infield for the Boston Red Sox in 1925 and had an extensive Minor League career.
Connolly played his games during May, June, and July of 1925. He hit much better than the most-used shortstop of the season, Dud Lee, who hit .224 with little power. Lee, however, had better range in the field. The following year Topper Rigney was the team shortstop and the year after that Buddy Myer. In each of 1925-27, the Red Sox lost over 100 games.
He was the same age as outfielder Roy Carlyle who, although he had the highest slugging percentage among the regulars, played only two seasons in the major leagues.
Born in San Francisco before the great earthquake there in 1906, he died in 1964 in Berkeley, CA during a time of student protest there.
