[edit] Biographical Information
Bryce Florie pitched 8 seasons in the big leagues. He was famously struck by a line drive in 2000 that caused severe injury. In spite of that, he returned to the majors briefly in 2001.
He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the fifth round in 1988 but he reportedly did not want to sign with them and wanted to go to the University of South Carolina instead. He made the decision, however, that he wanted to go for the baseball career and did so. Many years later, he started taking college classes.
Bryce was mostly a reliever, pitching for four major league teams. In 1995 his ERA of 3.01 earned him an OPS+ of 135.
He also pitched all or part of 14 seasons in the minors, primarily as a starter until 1994.
After his pitching career, Florie spent time as a pitching coach for the River City Rascals.
